LEAD Parent Weekly Guide
Reinforcing Leadership at Home

Week 1: Launch - What Is Leadership?

Q: What is true leadership? Mark 10:43-45
What Your Student Learned

This week we redefined leadership not as a position, title, or rank, but as influence. We discussed how everyone has influence in some sphere—whether in their family, friend group, team, or class—and is therefore called to lead.

Why This Matters

Teens often think they can't lead until they are "in charge" or older. Understanding leadership as influence empowers them to take responsibility for their actions and impact right now, rather than waiting for permission or a title.

This Week's Challenge

Interview a Leader: Your student has been challenged to interview one adult leader (parent, coach, teacher, pastor) about their leadership journey.

Parent Tip: If they ask to interview you, take it seriously! Be honest about your struggles and growth. If not you, help them brainstorm who to ask.

Parent Reflection

Where is my primary sphere of influence right now? Do I model leadership as service or as power in my own home?

Conversation Starters
  • Who is the best leader you've ever known personally? What made them great?
  • Where do you think you have the most influence right now (friends, team, siblings)?
  • If leadership isn't about being bossy, what IS it about?
Family Activity (15 min)

Circle of Influence Map: Sit down with a piece of paper and draw a circle in the middle with your family name. Draw lines out to all the places your family has influence (school, work, neighborhood, church). Discuss: "How can we use our influence for good in one of these areas this week?"

Prayer Focus
Pray that your student would see themselves as a leader today, not just in the future. Ask God to reveal their current sphere of influence to them.
Watch For & Affirm

Notice when they influence a sibling or friend positively (e.g., suggesting a game, stopping gossip, helping without being asked). Say: "That was great leadership when you..."
