We explored how leaders see what could be, not just what is. We looked at Nehemiah's bold vision and discussed how big dreams require brave first steps. Students drafted a vision for their own sphere of influence.
Teens can be very present-focused or worried about the future. Vision gives them hope and direction. It helps them make better decisions today because they know where they want to go tomorrow.
First Step: Students broke their big vision down into one concrete action step to take immediately.
Parent Tip: Ask, "What's one thing you dream of doing before you graduate?" Listen without critiquing the practicality of it.
Do I encourage my kids' dreams, or am I the "reality check" too often? When was the last time I dreamed big?
Family Vision Board: Grab some magazines or markers and paper. Spend time creating a visual representation of what you want your family to look/feel like in 5 years. Is it adventurous? Peaceful? Serving others? Put it on the fridge.
When they talk about the future with excitement, validate it. "I could totally see you doing that. You have a gift for..."
